CoreLogic is celebrating the well-deserved recognition of Chris Weir - Principal Architect, who has been named as a finalist in the ‘Professional Of The Year’ category at the 2017 New Zealand Spatial Excellence Awards (NZSEA).

Chris WeirThese awards showcase the very finest projects that the New Zealand Spatial Information Industry has to offer, with individual finalists deemed to be truly outstanding achievers in their field. The NZSEA awards provide a stepping stone for organisations and individuals to then be nominated in the Asia-Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards (APSEA).

Weir is a senior employee of New Zealand’s leading property and data analytics company - CoreLogic NZ. With almost 36 years involvement in the spatial industry, Chris takes the internal and external lead on all major spatial projects across CoreLogic. With a wealth of spatial knowledge, he is well regarded and respected by peers and clients alike, carrying a reputation for delivering solutions that are robust, scalable and fully integrated into workflows and systems, without being bound by any one technology.

His spatial career began as a cartographer, where he drew maps by hand - developing the foundational understanding of spatial concepts and theories [AG1] such as topology, projections, datum, and vertical integration. These core skills have held strong and are still valid, even in the highly technology based GIS world.

His experience in data, how that data interacts within the physical world and also how it’s used by many major nationwide organisations means that Chris is regularly used as a sounding board by his peers within the organisation and externally. His involvement means that projects often take a different, vastly improved trajectory to the originally envisaged path, with client expectations always exceeded.

Weir is also actively involved in the surveying and spatial profession’s development and has held multiple leadership roles within the industry bodies and associations including; NZ SSSI (Survey and Spatial Sciences Institute), NZIS (New Zealand Institute of Surveyors), SSSC (Survey and Spatial Science Conference), the NZ Spatial Excellence Awards themselves and the NZ Cartographic Society.

At CoreLogic - our data, analytics and technology may be impressive - but it’s our people of whom we’re most proud. Chris is so very deserving of the high client praise he receives for his thought leadership and solutions quality.  As his work family, we value his intellect, his skills, his working approach - and we wish Chris the very best for the Spatial Awards Gala at Te Papa on 15 November.
