CoreLogic NZ today announced a multi-year agreement with the New Zealand Transport Agency, in a milestone deal which will lead to significant efficiency gains for NZ’s roading infrastructure and its governing bodies.

CoreLogic Road Data will be licensed to NZ Transport Agency, enabling all participants in NZ’s transport sector to work from a common and authoritative centreline representation. Beneficiaries of the agreement extend beyond the NZ Transport Agency to also include the Ministry of Transport, Road Controlling Authorities (Local Councils), contractors working for those parties, and the public.

The NZ Transport Agency undertook an open tender process in search of an authoritative national road network dataset to better support their statutory functions into the future. With expansive responsibilities; covering the performance and safety of our highways, ensuring an efficient network, planning and forecasting for its growth plus allocation of funding, they needed a robust dataset to support their decision making on the maintenance and investment in NZ’s roading infrastructure.

Rebecca Schulz from the NZ Transport Agency said she was “pleased to be working closely with CoreLogic to make a key dataset available. It will support the Agency and our RCA partners to make better, more informed investment decisions”

CoreLogic Road Data is NZ’s most complete and current ‘real world’ dataset, relied upon by commercial and Government clients for its detailed roading intelligence such as traffic flows, structures, intersections, turn restrictions and routes. Updated daily (alongside CoreLogic national property and address information), it also includes new roads captured directly from subdivision plans.

As part of this program of work, CoreLogic is working closely with RAMM Software Ltd, Australasia’s premier road asset management software company, and creators of the RAMM (Road Assessment and Maintenance Management) software. RAMM is used extensively by all of NZ’s Road Controlling Authorities (RCA’s). This project has resulted in a new dataset that combines the road location with road condition.

RAMM Software General Manager Graeme Norman comments: “The CoreLogic/NZTA partnership will enable Road Controlling Authorities to easily integrate their local road network with New Zealand’s State Highway network at no additional cost"

The CoreLogic/RAMM innovation means NZ’s transportation ecosystem, as well as the public, will be able to access and use information on the majority of transport assets across New Zealand.

For the benefit of all New Zealanders, this dataset will be made available through the NZ Transport Agency open data platform for a wide range of non-commercial purposes.

Matt Lythe, Head of Geospatial Solutions at CoreLogic adds: “CoreLogic is committed to delivering the most advanced data technology and analytics for NZ businesses. We’re thrilled to be partnering with RAMM Software to support NZTA in achieving their objectives over the years to come”.
