NZ Flood Models 2021 data update: Now providing 100% coverage and greater detail
NZ FloodMap offers a consistent spatial view of flood risk throughout New Zealand. Its high resolution and precision map layers contain inundation risk for different event probabilities, enabling detailed analysis of flood risk anywhere in New Zealand, down to property level.
Complementing NZ FloodMap is NZ FloodScore, which allocates an easy-to-understand relative flood risk score for addresses and locations across New Zealand. This allows for a fast implementation of a flood risk assessment.
Our recent data update means that NZ FloodMap and NZ FloodScore now also provide:
- 100% coverage - over 100k additional properties now included
- 70% of properties at 5m Urban resolution (up from 54%, or from 5% to 12% by area)
- Flood defence data for over 35k properties (and will continue to grow in future updates)
Now with 100% coverage, NZ FloodMap really is a one-stop-shop; no need to translate different data sets into one consistent view to understand risk across the whole of NZ.

More granular view
Recent data updates also mean much greater coverage at 5m urban resolution – now 70% of properties are available in a more detailed view (up from 54% of properties, or from 5% to 12% by land area). This more granular, detailed data is especially useful in urban areas where property sizes are smaller, and a few metres can make a material difference to risk.
Flood defense data
Flood defenses have also been incorporated in the FloodScores of over 35,000 properties. Incorporating more real-world elements means a more holistic view of risk.
