Nationwide Sales Volumes

Nationwide sales volumes experienced their usual seasonal increase from February to March

Nationwide sales volumes experienced their usual seasonal increase from February to March, as the property market got back into full swing after the holiday period. Volumes were still down by almost 2% year-on-year, but the pace of decline has slowed dramatically and therefore we may now be seeing signs that a floor for the number of sales is within sight.

Indeed, some parts of the country may have already passed their trough for sales. Taking the last three months combined, sales are higher than a year ago in Hamilton, Christchurch and Dunedin. Auckland is still struggling, with plenty of listings meaning that buyers don’t have to rush to make a purchase.
