16 January 2018

Annual rental growth rose slightly in November 2017, to 3.9%, but has been trending down since the start of the 2017.

Gross rental yield saw a minor drop to 3.1% - the equal lowest (with September 2017 and September 2016) for at least 20 years.

Christchurch rent continues to drop, down 4.8% over the past year. Median rent in Dunedin decreased by 2.4% annually in November after recently seeing double digit annual growth.

Meanwhile Wellington currently has the greatest annual increase of 7.2% off the back of increased reports of a rental shortage in the Capital.

Gross yield is still very low across the main centres with all but Dunedin (4.3%) below 4%.
